Hello, my name is Ashleigh Neill

During my PhD studies, I discovered a passion for transforming complex research into clear, engaging visuals, which inspired me to launch PhDcartoon. What started as a way to share my academic experiences has evolved into a resource for helping others express their work creatively.

I've collaborated with researchers and institutions on various projects throughout my career, contributing illustrations to academic books published by Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan. As a senior economist at a central bank, I created graphics and animated infographics that effectively communicated key findings from flagship reports.

I enjoy working across disciplines and learning about your unique projects. My portfolio includes illustrations, project logos, and graphics showcased at conferences and online platforms. I also conduct workshops to help PhD students and early-career researchers effectively communicate their findings and make their research more accessible.

I’m always open to new projects and ideas, so feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!

Professor Catherine Hands, author of Pathways to Community Engagement in Education: Collaboration in Diverse, Urban Neighbourhoods (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023).

"I was looking for a graphic designer to effectively illustrate complex and diverse social relationships for my book. Ashleigh took the time to meet with me, asking insightful questions so that she could understand the context and what I was trying to achieve. She created a clear, attractive, computer-generated figure for the book in a timely manner that captured the essence of what I was trying to convey. I was very impressed with her work; so much so, I commissioned Ashleigh to create two pen-and-ink drawings to reflect the importance of community engagement in education—the topic of my book. Again, I was impressed with her ability to portray the concept's essence, and she did so in a very imaginative way. Ashleigh's drawings are a charming addition to the book. Overall, Ashleigh was a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend her work."
